Default Black Dye Prices

Can anyone tell me why black dye is so sought after? 8,000 gold? At that price it better make me invisible.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but searching is disabled.

Thanks.

Because so many people want to be decked out in all black. Look around you in real life, at all the people who wear all black all the time. It's totally kewl!!

Because the drop rate for that particular colour is lower than the others (and demand is high).

A) Low drop rate
B) Looks so freaking cool
C) It's really expensive so you know that person has a lot of gold.

There was a guy in Ascalon City last night trying to buy Black dye from newcomers for 500g. He disapeared soon after someone pointed out that if they sold it to the trader they'd get 5.5K. I'm just wondering how many he actually aquired before being rumbled.

Then again, if someone's daft enough to sell it for 500g then.....................!

Sold a black dye that I got on a drop picking up bonus' for missions outside of Nolani Academy for 6 Platinum yesterday. I was happy since I was broke and don't really care about black dye (overdone, IMO). I do believe it comes down to low drop rates and popularity.......

The problem comes when you have expensive taste.. black + blue + silver or, alternatively, trying to come up with a very dark red for a ranger.. and suspect you'll need black.

So.. that's my reason for liking black, only one of my chars has straight black on her outfit, and I still haven't finished dying it.

I sure hope the prices for black dye plummet when Factions is released. Honestly, seeing an Assassin running around with anything BUT dark clothing will be hokey.

i can't even imagine how many people will want their assassin to be in all black to resemble a ninja... black dye price is going to sky rocket after faction release.

ooo...silver assassins...

yeah, one of my luckier black dye drops was at the 28K+ dye time. That, is nothing my friend. no, it would be about 28k for 4, then...28k for one..and people still bought it en masse.

yep, before the trader balance/reset it would get up as high as 45k for a single black dye (usually during weekends).

Because the game is full of pre-teens who think dressing in black somehow makes them cool rather than just looking like every other little kid in the game....

thanks to that madness a few good people made their first few 100k *has fond memories*

I started the day on a few K, like any other, but noticed weird dye prices...merched silvers, got enough to buy blacks, saw what was happening then merched blacks as fast as possible and I had 15k armour (dyed black), superior runes and a nice 15^50 flamberge at the end of the day. With the introduction of 2 new classes the demand on vigor runes and dyes will explode, perhaps anet have put a buffer in place for this...or perhaps not

Why does everyone think black dye look so cool? Is everyone on GWG an emo or goth?

I hate black dye, once you put it on it means no more messing about with colours...I'd only ever use it as an ingredient.
